Latest General Motors News
May 6, 2023
May 5, 2023 Cadillac’s entry into Formula 1 promises to be one of the soap operas of the coming months. The American giant already announced at the beginning of the year its intention to enter Formula 1 together with Andretti, but for the moment the matter is stopped because most of the teams do not want an eleventh structure. Now General Motors has taken another step so that its application is taken seriously by Formula 1. It is willing to develop your own engine for 2027. He would be the seventh driver on the grid and probably the definitive order for Cadillac to be able to run in Formula 1. Cadillac would have its own engine from 2027 Pese a the opposition of the rest of the teams to the entry of Cadillac, the FIA has already opened a door for the American manufacturer and Andretti to sneak into Formula 1. Two new places for teams will be up for bid soon, and Cadillac is the great favorite to win one of them. But still they want to be well received. For this reason, General Motors has taken the definitive step. In the words of Eric Warren, the executive director of General Motors’ competition department, “we are going to consider manufacturing the power units”. Warren believes that the conjunction of Andretti and Cadillac must be total, and that is why having your own engine is essential. If the idea crystallized, General Motors would be the seventh motorist other than Formula 1 with the new regulations, together with Ferrari, Renault, Mercedes, Honda, Audi and Ford. Of course, the plan would be to enter in 2027, and that until that date the Cadillac team would run motorized by another brand, presumably Renault or Honda. “We want to finally start and make sure we are competitive. Next we will decide what makes the most sense for us. I think it is difficult right now to make the engine 100%, I have always believed in the contribution of technical partners with whom you can work together. We have the skills and we can do it,” Warren concluded. General Motors already works with hybrid engines both in IndyCar through Chevrolet and in WEC and IMSA through Cadillac. Now they could cross the final frontier and also be Formula 1 motorists. It would dispel any doubts about whether Cadillac was trying to be another Alfa Romeo, a brand for mere advertising purposes. What is becoming increasingly clear is that General Motors’ commitment to Formula 1 is very serious. We’ll see if it’s finally accepted.
