From EV fleet management to intelligent charging technology, these startups are building tech-enabled solutions to support the rollout of electric vehicles.
Electric vehicles (EVs) make up just a fraction of global automotive sales, as concerns around range length, charging infrastructure, and vehicle cost hinder adoption.
But an increasing number of governments and companies expect EVs to reach mass adoption within the next decade. For example, the UK will ban the sale of new gas and diesel cars starting in 2035, while China has set a goal for EVs to make up 25% of all vehicle sales within 5 years.
A growing number of early-stage software and computer hardware startups are looking to capitalize on this shift. These companies’ areas of focus range from predictive analytics for batteries and charging tech, to operating systems for charging infrastructure, to software that streamlines fleet operations.
We used the CB Insights database to identify 60+ early-stage companies developing technology for ground-based electric vehicles (e.g., electric cars, vans, and trucks). We exclude light EV companies (e.g., bike and scooter manufacturers and sharing platforms), EV manufacturers, battery manufacturers, mobility service providers, and charging network operators.
This market map consists of private, early-stage companies and is not intended to be exhaustive of the space. Categories are not mutually exclusive and companies are mapped according to primary use case. Please click to enlarge.
