Top Biotech Pharma Companies 2017
The biotech industry was largely down in 2016 due to debates on high treatment prices throughout the presidential election. However, by the first half of 2017, biotech investors no longer feared the threat of price controls that had loomed over the sector in the previous year.
By June 2017, there had already been 23 biotech IPOs, and the market saw increased competition and value-based pricing–sending the biotech industry to its highest point since 2015. The year would end with a total of 44 IPOs by healthcare companies.
One of the largest deals of the year, and ever to a private European pharma company, was Roivant Sciences. The Switzerland-based biotechnology startup raised $1.1B from Founders Fund and SoftBank Group.
